l need a 1 minute monologue and l just timed mine and it was over 1 minute. If l sped up it would not sound good. I am auditioning for a school play. Do you think it'd be ok if l cut 5 or 6 lines out? Would the director mind? Here is the whole thing: http://monologuearchive.com/s/shakespeare_036.html And here is what I am thinking of cutting it down to:
l left no ring with her. What means this lady? Fortune forbid my outside have not charmed her. She made good view of me, indeed so much That methought her eyes had lost her tongue She loves me sure; the cunning of her passion Invites me in this churlish messenger. None of my lord is ring? Why, he sent her none. l am the man. If it be so, as 'tis, Poor lady, she were better love a dream. Disguise, l see thou art a wickedness How will this fadge? My master loves her dearly, And I, poor monster, fond as much on him, And she, mistaken, seems to dote on me. As l am man, My state is desperate for my master is love. As l am woman (now alas the day!), What thriftless sighs shall poor Olivia breathe! O Time, thou must untangle this, not I; It is too hard a knot for me t' untie. No it is like 30 seconds over (depending how fast l go)

They say a minute but if it is really interesting they wont sweat a minute-ten. So how far over a minute?? If it is only 10 to 15 seconds dont cut it down it will only sound worst as if you read it too fast

with the way shakespeare wrote everything, there is really no good way to cut down any monolgues.
it will throw everything off.
they say a minute, but if it is a few seoconds over, that is fine. you're under 2 minutes, so let it be.
they put a time limit because they do not want to sit through a 5-10 minute monologue.
